Health Food: Honey

Importance of nutrition in food has increased with more stress and related disease in our lives. Health food is used to describe any food that is considered to be healthy, or it can mean specific foods claimed to be especially beneficial to health. Also Health food is the new name for proper nutritious diet. All of us seem to be more careful about our diet and exercise routine. While watching our diet we crave for equally delicious food and recipes too. Bland food tastes good only when we are sick or down with fever.
In this article I intend to tell you wonderful recipe made using Honey. Honey is the classic, fashionable as well as trendy ingredient, undoubtedly a healthier alternative to sugar. Honey is known as nectar for its unbelievable health benefits. Honey enhances the taste as well as provides our body with energy. Since generations innovative cooks have created lip-smacking dishes with honey. Best known as natural sweetener, honey contains one-fourth lesser calories than sugar. Also it is full of minerals, vitamins and anti-oxidants vital for human body. If you are on diet or wish to lose weight, honey is best taken first thing with warm water in mornings. Making honey an integral ingredient in our regular diet gives us glowing, beautiful skin too.

Here I share with you one of my favorite recipes which can be used in everyday cooking.
Honey Chilli Idlis
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups mini idlis pre- prepared (see chef’s note at the end of recipe)
2 onions sliced into rings
1 tsp butter
1/2 cup shredded cabbage
Salt and pepper to taste
½ tsp chat masala
2 tsp oil
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp cumin seeds
2 dry red chillies, crushed
¼ cup onion finely diced
¼ cup carrots diced
¼ cup roasted peanuts crushed
¼ cup capsicum diced
½ tsp anardana(dried pomegranate) powder
1 tsp honey
1 tsp lemon juice
METHOD:
Melt butter in a pan, sauté onion rings and cabbage and season with salt, pepper and chat masala : transfer to a salad bowl.
Heat oil in wok add mustard, cumin and stir in red chillies, onion, peanuts, capsicum, carrots and sauté for 2 min, add honey, anardana powder, salt and pepper.
Remove the wok from stove, stir in the idlis and lemon juice then transfer to salad bowl; toss slightly and serve.
Chef’s Note:
To make Idlis – put 1 cup semolina in a bowl and blend 1 cup yogurt along with 1 green chill, 1 tsp chopped coriander leaves, 1 tsp (1 sachet) Eno Fruit Salt and 1 tsp oil, beat to make smooth, thick batter. Make cocktail-size, small idlis, steam in batches in a greased idli steamer, cool and reserve.
